For over 24 years, Garrett K. Krause has been a successful global entrepreneur, dealmaker, venture banker and investor with active participation in over 50 global transactions creating aggregate shareholder values in excess of $1 Billion. A true entrepreneur, at the age of 18, Mr. Krause was on the cutting edge of the 1980’s software explosion as the inventor of a first generation PC based retail inventory point of sale system. In 1988, Mr. Krause sold his software technology to the world’s leading cash register manufacturer and has spent the next 21 years providing "smart capital" as an integral part of many global ventures. One of these ventures was as an early investor in small public Canadian oil and gas Company, which grew from near bankruptcy and producing 60 barrels of oil a day to become one of the largest independent oil producers in Canada, eventually selling in 2005 for over $4 billion.
Mr. Krause's career as a lead investor, principal, banker and consultant has provided a unique experience and viewpoint for operating in today's global business world. These views have all been incorporated as a driving force in the creation of WorldVest and all its subsidiary operations, investments and holdings.
Currently, Mr. Krause is the CEO of Wilmington Rexford Group of Companies, sits on the board of directors of Barotex Technology Corporation (OTC: BARX) and is a Managing Director of both Stockpicks.com and NetMall.com two leading Internet companies.
Conrad Chase Vice President, Global Business
Mr. Chase, who joined the WorldVest team at inception, is responsible for raising investment capital, sourcing investment opportunities, and attracting strategic global partners to the firm.
Early in his career, Mr. Chase successfully started and profitably sold two businesses during college in order to finance his college education. After graduation, Mr. Chase spent one year working for the Kyunggido Provincial Ministry of Education in Seoul, South Korea while learning conversational Korean. Mr. Chase also is also multi-lingual with fluency in both Spanish and Italian.
After returning to the US, he was responsible for developing sales, marketing, and investor education campaigns to high net worth investors for Castle Arch Real Estate, a Los Angeles based real estate development firm. Mr. Chase, who currently lives in Redondo Beach, CA, earned a B.S. in International Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2005, where he served as the President of the Young Entrepreneurs Association.
Michael Carney Vice President, Global Business
Michael Carney joined the WorldVest team at inception and has been instrumental in its development as a global merchant bank. Paramount among his accomplishments has been the development of the WorldVest retail syndication network and the Company’s business development efforts throughout Asia.
Prior to joining WorldVest, Mr. Carney worked with Castle Arch Real Estate, where he was responsible for developing sales, marketing, and investor education campaigns targeted to high net worth investors for a Los Angeles based real estate development firm. Previously, Mr. Carney spent one year working for the Kyunggido Provincial Ministry of Education in Seoul, South Korea and learning conversational Korean. Mr. Carney, who currently lives in Redondo Beach, CA, earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California-Santa Barbara while competing as a member of the Division I Men's Golf Team and holding several elected positions within campus and community organizations.
Martinho Paiva Moreira Vice President, WorldVest Brazil
Vice President of WV Partners in Brazil, Mr. Martinho Paiva Moreira brings more than 25 year of experience in organizational development, retail sales and consumer finance & credit card underwriting. Notably, Mr. Moreira was personally responsible for building a family supermarket & retail chain from inception to R$700 million in annual revenue over a period of 15 years. Within this time, Mr. Moreira was a pioneer of in-store private label credit cards in the supermarket industry, setting numerous precedents and best-practices standards across the industry. Currently, Mr. Moreira serves as the President of the Săo Paulo Supermarket Association, an industry organization, which boasts a membership of 1,200 members with more than 6,000 combined store locations. In this role he has access to real time state of the industry information as well as wide ranging personal relationships throughout the retail sector.
Martinho received an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a secondary degree in Economics from the University of Sao Paulo, in Sao Paulo Brazil.
Matthew “Yoon-ji” Chung Senior Managing Director, Asia
Matthew Chung has more than 20 years of successful management, business development, and consulting experience on a global basis. Mr. Chung has worked with both private and public companies, predominantly throughout Asia, seeking to expand their businesses globally. Prior to joining WorldVest, Mr. Chung was the CEO and Founder of Uniconnex Inc., a global business development consulting firm based in Los Angeles, California specializing in the IT industry. Previously, he was a co-founder of Mondo System Inc., an electronics and digital media company based in Seoul, South Korea. During his time with Mondo, Mr. Chung managed its global business development operations while also successfully attracting $10 million USD in investment from Softbank Corp., one of the world’s largest IT investment firms.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Chung spent 17 years working for TriGem Computer Inc. in Seoul, South Korea. Mr. Chung was directly responsible for strategic planning and product development. During his time with TriGem, the company supplied personal computers under their private brand to IBM, HP, Gateway and other global customers.
In 1998, TriGem established e-machines, Inc. to enter the value PC segment. Mr. Chung was as a program manager to oversee its entry into the in US marketplace. On the success of this market entry, e-machines completed a NASDAQ initial public offering in 1999 and was eventually sold to Gateway Computers in 2004. Further, from 1999 to 2004, Mr. Chung oversaw Trigem’s entry into the European market as the Managing Director of both the Netherlands and Germany.
Mr. Chung holds a B.S., Computer Science from KwangWoon University in Seoul, South Korea, and lives in Orange County, CA, with his wife and children.
James “Jaesung” Kim Managing Director, Korea
As Managing Director of Korea, Jaesung Kim oversees all WorldVest transactions originating from Korea, with a secondary focus on Asia at large. Mr. Kim brings to the WorldVest team 18 years of extensive experiences as a successful strategic and financial advisor to companies across countless industries and global markets.
Prior to joining WorldVest, Mr. Kim spent 18 years as a U.S. representative of the Korea Trade & Investment Promotion Agency (“KOTRA”). For the most recent four years of this period, he held the position of Senior Manager for the Foreign Investment Inducement Team in KOTRA’s Los Angeles regional office. In this role Mr. Kim was responsible for inducing US$1.8 billion foreign direct investment into Korea through the identification and advancement more than 200 projects in the real estate development, high-tech manufacturing, renewable energy, entertainment, pharmaceutical and bio-tech industries. Further, Mr. Kim has been instrumental in introducing Korean companies and financial institutions to the use of Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs) and Alternate Public Offerings (APOs) as vehicles for accessing the U.S. public exchanges. The result of this work has been several successful buyout and equity investment transactions involving Korea.
Previously, while working in KOTRA’s Detroit regional office, Mr. Kim personally facilitated the closing of more than US$120 million worth of transactions between U.S. and Korean auto-part companies. As a long time chief analyst, Mr. Kim has provided strategic market research reports to the Korean government as well as the finance industry and private sectors while also contributing to numerous publications on Korean macro and micro economic forecasts.
Mr. Kim holds a BS and MS in Economics from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, as well as MBA with emphases on Finance and Accounting from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Additionally, he was formerly an intern at Wharton Econometric Forecasting Associates in Washington, DC. Mr. Kim currently lives in Los Angeles, CA with his wife and children.
